Hinds County courthouse, clerk’s office clear after hazardous device threat

All is clear at the Hinds County Circuit Courthouse and the Circuit Clerk’s Office following a threat of a hazardous device, Hinds County officials said in a Facebook post. Normal operations have resumed, the post said.

The post thanked local, state and federal law enforcement agencies that responded to assist, and said the source of the threat is under investigation. Officials did not provide additional details about the nature of the threat or whether anyone was detained.

The Hinds County Circuit Courthouse serves as the primary trial court for Hinds County in central Mississippi and handles major criminal and civil cases. Threats to courthouses can prompt security sweeps, temporary closures and the postponement of hearings, disrupting public business and court schedules.

The coordinated response by multiple agencies underscores routine security protocols used to protect the public and court personnel when a potential hazard is reported. The investigation into the source of the threat is ongoing. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
