Tupelo man charged with aggravated domestic violence
TUPELO, Miss. — A Tupelo man was arrested May 17 and charged with aggravated domestic violence after police investigated a reported assault on May 8, the Tupelo Police Department said.
Officers responded May 8 to a report on McCullough Boulevard and spoke with a victim who said they had been physically assaulted by someone they were in a relationship with, the department said. After further investigation, police arrested 24-year-old Martin Jefferson of Tupelo on May 17, authorities said.
Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Allen ordered Jefferson to be held without bond, court records show. The case is expected to be presented to the Lee County grand jury for possible indictment.
Tupelo is the county seat of Lee County in northeastern Mississippi. Aggravated domestic violence is treated as a serious criminal charge under state law and can carry significant penalties if a defendant is convicted. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
