Tupelo man charged with aggravated domestic violence

Tupelo police have charged a man with aggravated domestic violence after investigating a reported assault in April, authorities said.

The Tupelo Police Department said officers responded April 22 to North Parc Circle regarding a previous domestic assault. Officers were told the victim had been assaulted by an estranged spouse, according to the department.

After further investigation, police arrested Terry W. Richey II, 39, of Tupelo, on May 13 and charged him with one count of aggravated domestic violence, the department said. Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Allen ordered Richey held on $25,000 bond. The case will be presented to the Lee County grand jury.

Aggravated domestic violence is generally treated as a serious criminal charge and, depending on circumstances and local law, can carry significant penalties. Cases alleging domestic violence are often referred to a grand jury to determine whether formal indictments will be issued. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
