Tornado warning for Greene County, Miss., expires
A Facebook post said a Tornado Warning for Greene County, Mississippi, that had been in effect until 11 a.m. CDT has expired.
Greene County is in southeastern Mississippi, a region that can experience severe thunderstorms and tornadoes particularly during the spring and fall. Local posts and alerts are commonly used to quickly inform residents of changing weather conditions.
Tornado warnings are typically issued by the National Weather Service when a tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar. When warnings are in effect, authorities advise people to seek shelter in a sturdy building, move to an interior room on the lowest floor and stay away from windows.
Residents should continue to monitor local media, official agency channels and emergency notifications for any additional advisories. A social media post may relay an official alert, but the National Weather Service and local emergency management are primary sources for confirmation.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
