Tornado warning expires for Lauderdale County, Mississippi

A tornado warning for Lauderdale County, Mississippi, that had been in effect until 9 a.m. CDT has expired, a Facebook post said. The post did not provide additional details about damage or injuries.

Tornado warnings are typically issued when a tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar and call for immediate action to seek shelter, weather experts say. Agencies such as the National Weather Service use warnings to alert residents about imminent threats from severe storms.

Lauderdale County is in east-central Mississippi and includes the city of Meridian. Tornado threats in this region often occur during spring and fall when atmospheric conditions favor severe thunderstorms.

Even after a warning expires, severe weather can produce hazards such as damaging winds, hail and localized flooding, and residents are advised to remain cautious and monitor local forecasts and alerts.
