Tornado warning covers Hancock, Harrison, Pearl River counties until 5:30 p.m. CDT

A Facebook post warned of a tornado warning for Hancock, Harrison and Pearl River counties in Mississippi until 5:30 p.m. CDT, advising residents to take immediate precautions.

The three counties are in southern Mississippi along the Gulf Coast. Tornado warnings indicate a tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar and pose an immediate threat to life and property.

Officials and safety experts generally advise people in the warned area to move to a safe location immediately — an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows. Mobile homes and vehicles are particularly vulnerable during tornadoes; residents are urged to seek more secure shelter if possible.

Residents should monitor local news outlets, weather radio and official channels such as the National Weather Service for updates and instructions. A social media post provided the initial notice. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
