Tornado warning covers four Mississippi counties until 11:45 p.m. CDT

A tornado warning is in effect for Jefferson Davis, Lawrence, Lincoln and Marion counties in Mississippi until 11:45 p.m. CDT. Residents in those counties should seek immediate shelter and monitor local emergency information.

Tornado warnings are typically issued when a tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar and signal an imminent threat to life and property. A warning differs from a watch, which means conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop.

Officials and weather safety experts advise moving to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, staying away from windows and covering yourself with something sturdy if possible. Mobile homes, vehicles and outdoor areas offer little protection from tornadoes and occupants should move to a nearby substantial structure when time allows.

Residents should monitor local media, radio, official social media channels and weather-alert devices for updates and instructions from emergency management. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
