Starkville police offer free autism awareness stickers
The Starkville Police Department is offering free Autism Awareness stickers for display on vehicle rear windows to alert officers that an occupant may communicate or respond differently, the department said in a Facebook post. The stickers are available for pickup at the Starkville Police Department, 101 E. Lampkin St., Starkville, Mississippi.
The department said the decals provide an important alert to first responders and may be especially helpful during stressful situations such as traffic stops. The post said a simple sticker can help prevent misunderstandings, encourage patience and understanding, and promote safer, more effective communication during interactions between officers and occupants.
