Starkville officers secure man after possible overdose, barricade
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Officers with the Starkville Police Department secured an adult man Tuesday evening after responding to a possible overdose and a brief barricade at a residence, the department said.
In a Facebook post, the department said officers responded at approximately 5:10 p.m. Aug. 18 to a home on Overstreet Drive after a family member called 911 requesting assistance. Officers and medical personnel made contact with the man in the front yard and began evaluating him.
The department said the man began walking away from the residence and then barricaded himself inside. Officers continued efforts to communicate and negotiated with the man for about 30 minutes before entering the home and securing him without incident.
The man will be transferred for further mental health and medical treatment, the post said. The Starkville Police Department routinely works with medical personnel on overdose and mental health calls to ensure safety and care. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
