Sheriff’s Office asks churches, schools, apartments for emergency layouts

The Sheriff’s Office asked churches, schools and apartment complexes to provide facility layouts to help emergency responders plan and respond more effectively, according to a Facebook post. Officials asked property managers to call 662-763-8311 to schedule a time to drop off layouts or to arrange pickup.

Having building plans and property layouts on file can allow responders to move more precisely during an incident by familiarizing themselves with entrances, exits and interior layouts ahead of time, the post said. The office said all submitted layouts will remain secured at a designated location within the Sheriff’s Office.

The request follows common emergency management practice in which public safety agencies collect site information from churches, schools, apartment complexes and other high-occupancy sites to improve planning and on-scene coordination. Agencies say pre-incident familiarization can reduce response times and improve safety for occupants and responders.

This is a developing item. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
