Tupelo man gets 12 years for fentanyl trafficking
Alderius Rashad Morrow pleaded guilty Monday and received a 12-year prison sentence for trafficking fentanyl, the First Circuit District Attorney’s Office said.
Circuit Court Judge Kelly L. Mims sentenced Morrow to 40 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with 28 years suspended, leaving 12 years to serve, the district attorney’s office said in a news release.
Because the conviction was for a trafficking offense, Morrow is not eligible for parole or early release and must serve the full 12-year sentence day for day, the release said. The North Mississippi Narcotics Unit investigated the case. Assistant District Attorney Megan French prosecuted the case for the state, according to the release.
Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid that has been linked to rising overdose deaths nationwide and is a focus of law enforcement and public health efforts. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
