Rankin County sheriff recognizes 911 dispatchers

Sheriff Bailey and the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department are recognizing the county’s Communications Division and its 911 dispatchers, the department said in a Facebook post.

The post praised the dispatchers for working “behind the scenes” while remaining ready to assist anyone in need of police, fire or EMS assistance, the department said. It said telecommunicators are often the first point of contact during emergencies and play a crucial role in coordinating responses.

Often called “the calm voice in the dark,” 911 telecommunicators undergo specialized training to obtain the necessary information from callers on some of the worst days of their lives so first responders can arrive on scene prepared to provide care and services, the department said.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department expressed gratitude on behalf of the agency, county and state, writing, “Thank you for your service to our communities and citizens.” We will provide more information as it becomes available.
