The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department urged motorists to exercise extra patience as the Rankin County School District returns to class July 30, the department said in a Facebook post.
The post asked drivers to be careful during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up as students and parents resume school routines after summer break. School resource deputies with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department will be out in school zones directing traffic, the department said.
The department also posted that it has safety tips for motorists who encounter school buses during their commutes. The tips were included in the original social media post; they were not reproduced in the notice provided here.
School reopenings typically increase pedestrian activity, school-zone traffic and stops by buses, which can slow commutes and require extra caution. The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department’s message is part of routine efforts by local law enforcement to reduce accidents and keep students safe during the start of the school year.
