Oxford police complete crisis intervention training with Communicare
OXFORD, Mississippi — Four Oxford Police Department officers completed Crisis Intervention Team training through the North Central Mississippi CIT program with Communicare, the department said in a Facebook post.
The department named the officers as Officer Cameron Chunn, Detective Tray LeSueur, Officer Sheffield Anthony and Officer Zach Hatcher.
Oxford Police Department said the training gives officers skills to recognize a mental health crisis and respond with patience and de-escalation, connecting people to appropriate resources instead of defaulting to arrest. The department said mental health calls are among the toughest officers face and that how those calls are handled can change someone’s life.
The department thanked Communicare for the partnership and said it remains committed to investing in training that balances community safety with compassion. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
