Oxford closes streets, parking for permitted event

Oxford officials said a permitted event is underway on North Lamar on Saturday, closing multiple streets and a parking lot to traffic and parking until 3 p.m.

A post on the city’s Facebook page listed the closures as North Lamar from Courthouse Square to North Lamar/Jefferson, Monroe Avenue, and the Something Southern parking lot across from City Hall, and advised residents to plan their routes accordingly.

The post encouraged residents to plan alternate routes and “enjoy your Saturday,” emphasizing the temporary nature of the disruption. City officials did not provide further details about the nature of the permitted event in the post.

Permitted events typically involve coordinated traffic and public-safety measures and can affect access to downtown businesses and public parking. The city’s notice aims to reduce inconvenience for drivers, residents and visitors during the closure.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
