OPD officers earn criminal justice degrees while working full time
Two officers with OPD earned criminal justice degrees while working full time, the department said this week on its Facebook page.
Officer Mackenzie Rogers completed a master’s degree in criminal justice, and Officer Jason Brill earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a concentration in law enforcement leadership, the post said.
The department praised both officers for their commitment and dedication to their careers and to improving themselves, saying those efforts will help the community. The post conveyed the department’s pride in the officers’ accomplishments during a week of graduation festivities.
Local police agencies commonly encourage continued education because advanced training and degrees can support leadership development, professionalization and community policing efforts. Higher education in criminal justice often provides officers with additional tools for investigations, management and public engagement.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
