Officials warn drivers as weather makes city roads impassable
City officials warned residents Wednesday that current weather conditions have made numerous roads impassible or unsafe and urged people not to drive unless necessary.
The officials said in a Facebook post that barricades are being placed at multiple locations throughout the city and asked drivers not to move or go around them. They also advised that if motorists encounter high water they should not attempt to cross. City workers and officers are patrolling and addressing situations as they arise, the post said.
Local emergency management and dispatch centers coordinate road closures and public-safety responses during hazardous weather. The post directed residents to contact Pearl River County Central Dispatch at 601-749-5482 with any needs or information.
High water and obstructed roads increase the risk to drivers and first responders, which is why authorities emphasize staying off the roads when conditions are dangerous. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
