Officers promote bicycle safety at scout meeting

Lieutenant Harris and Officer Holliday promoted bicycle safety during a recent meeting with Scout Pack 190 at Getwell Church, highlighting basic precautions as communities observe National Bicycle Safety Month in May, officials said.

In a Facebook post, the officers urged riders to obey traffic laws, signs and signals; be visible and wear a helmet; and use turn signals when turning or stopping.

National Bicycle Safety Month, observed each May, is intended to raise awareness about safe riding practices for commuters, recreational cyclists and children. Local law enforcement, schools and safety organizations often use the month to reinforce helmet use, visibility and adherence to traffic rules to help prevent injuries.

The meeting with the scout pack illustrates routine community outreach by officers to teach younger residents practical safety steps. The post noted the officers thanked the scouts for hosting them and encouraged everyone to stay safe. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
