Mississippi DPS graduates 54 cadets from Class 70
The Mississippi Department of Public Safety said in a Facebook post that Cadet Class 70 completed 16 weeks of training and 54 new graduates took the oath to serve and protect the people of Mississippi.
Of the 54 graduates, 42 joined the Mississippi Highway Patrol, six were assigned to Capitol Police, two to the Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division and four to the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, the post said.
The Mississippi Department of Public Safety oversees the Highway Patrol and other statewide law enforcement functions. The Highway Patrol enforces traffic laws and responds to highway emergencies, the Capitol Police protect state government facilities, the Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division focuses on commercial vehicle safety and the Bureau of Narcotics handles drug enforcement efforts. The new officers will be deployed across communities to carry out those duties.
The department thanked the graduates for their commitment, sacrifice and dedication and said, “Your time is now.” We will provide more information as it becomes available.
