Man charged with capital murder in Oct. 2025 Jackson killing denied bond
Jackson authorities say a 36-year-old man has been charged with capital murder in the Oct. 13, 2025, killing of Laterrance Barnes and was denied bond after an initial court appearance June 4.
A press release posted June 4 on the department’s Facebook page said Ahmod McDonald was transported from Dallas, Texas, to Jackson and booked into city holding in connection with Homicide No. 49 in the 3700 block of Liberty Street.
The release said McDonald had an initial appearance in municipal court June 4 and was denied bond. An initial appearance typically includes a formal reading of the charges and consideration of bail; denial of bond means the defendant will remain in custody pending further proceedings.
Capital murder is the most serious charge under state law and can carry the most severe penalties. The department’s brief statement did not provide additional details about the investigation, motive or any potential evidence.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
