Lowndes County sheriff invites community to National Night Out

The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office is inviting residents to National Night Out on Aug. 4, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, 527 M.L.K. Drive South in Columbus. The free, family-friendly event aims to strengthen partnerships between law enforcement and the community and promote crime prevention through positive interaction.

Attendees can meet deputies, view Sheriff’s Office vehicles and specialized equipment, and see demonstrations by the Drone Team and Emergency Management. The event will include free food and drinks, family entertainment, jumpers and activities for children, information booths from local community agencies, Neighborhood Watch registration and free firearm gun locks while supplies last.

Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said the event gives families an opportunity to meet deputies, learn about available resources and strengthen partnerships that help keep Lowndes County safe. The Sheriff’s Office will also hold a canned food drive to help stock outdoor community food pantries; residents who bring a nonperishable item will be entered into a drawing for dinner for two at Old Hickory Steakhouse.

The event is open to the public. For additional information, contact Lt. Rhonda Sanders at the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office at 662-328-6788.
