Lock vehicles to prevent thefts
A Facebook post urged Hattiesburg residents to lock their vehicles and remove visible valuables to help prevent break-ins and thefts.
The post advised drivers to lock doors, take keys and key fobs, and remove or hide items such as firearms, wallets and electronics before walking away from a vehicle.
It said it takes less than 60 seconds for a thief to strike and that taking a few extra seconds now can prevent a major headache later. The post also recommended parking in well-lit areas whenever possible.
Safety reminders like this are intended to reduce opportunistic crime by making vehicles less attractive targets. The post concluded by urging residents to “park smart, stay alert and help keep Hattiesburg safe.” We will provide more information as it becomes available.
