Business owners, property managers, law enforcement and community partners met at Precinct 4 to discuss public safety and operational challenges affecting commercial areas, the Jackson Police Department said in a Facebook post.
The discussion focused on mitigating vandalism, loitering, individuals experiencing homelessness near commercial properties and poor area lighting, the department said. Stakeholders emphasized that those conditions negatively affect employee well-being, customer confidence, day-to-day operations and the overall vitality of the area.
The department said Jennifer West of Constituent Services and Supervisor Robert Brunson, a code enforcement officer, joined the meeting to answer questions and offer guidance. The post also thanked Jam Rock Kitchen, Oriented Market and Zoe’s Diner for their donations to support the gathering.
Police precincts often host community meetings to coordinate responses among businesses, property managers and municipal services, and to identify potential short- and long-term solutions.
