Hinds County sheriff’s office mourns death of Sgt. Chris Moses

Hinds County Sheriff’s Office officials said Sgt. Chris Moses, born June 28, 1967, died May 4, 2026. The agency posted the announcement on its Facebook page, saying Moses devoted more than two decades of service to the Hinds County community and that his loss is felt across the office and among residents.

The post said Moses served with the Street Crimes Unit and the Mounted Unit and will be remembered for leadership, compassion and selflessness. His wife, Rosalind, is quoted in the post saying, “he loved being an officer,” a sentiment the office said was evident throughout his career.

Sheriff Tyree D. Jones said, “Sgt. Moses was a friend, he was a dedicated servant, but an even better and exceptional person. I will miss him.” The office said it joins Rosalind, their children, family, friends and colleagues in mourning his loss and praying for peace and comfort.

The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency for Hinds County, Mississippi. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
