Girner sentenced to life for first-degree murder
CORINTH, Miss. — Gabriel Girner, 24, of Sardis, pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison by Alcorn County Circuit Judge Michael P. Mills Jr., court officials said July 14, 2026.
Judge Mills accepted the plea and ordered Girner to serve his sentence in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Under Mississippi law, a defendant sentenced to life imprisonment for first-degree murder is not eligible for parole.
The charge followed an investigation by the Corinth Police Department into the June 14, 2023, death of Ivana Rose Girner, who was three months old, officials said. Detective Jerry Rogers served as the lead investigator on the case.
The case was prosecuted by District Attorney Jason D. Herring and Assistant District Attorneys Kyle Robbins and Clay Cummings on behalf of the state. Cases involving the deaths of infants typically prompt extensive investigations and can carry the most severe sentences under state law. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
