The Lee County Sheriffs Office said in a Facebook post that on Aug. 21, 2026, deputies initiated a traffic stop in the Auburn area of Lee County and identified the driver as James A. Davis, 56, of Tupelo.
Deputies learned that Davis was wanted by the Mississippi Department of Corrections and discovered he was in possession of methamphetamine, the post said. Deputies placed Davis under arrest and charged him with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance methamphetamine. A Lee County Justice Court judge set bond at $10,000.
The Lee County Sheriffs Office, led by Sheriff Jim H. Johnson, provides law enforcement services in Lee County, which includes the city of Tupelo. The Mississippi Department of Corrections maintains warrants and oversees the state prison system; local agencies commonly coordinate with the department when they identify a person who is wanted.
