Sheriff’s office investigates fatal shooting in Clarksdale area
COAHOMA COUNTY, Miss. — Authorities are investigating a homicide after a 23-year-old man was shot and later died following an incident Saturday night in the Land Acres area, the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies were dispatched about 10:19 p.m. to the area of Walker Drive and Perry Drive after reports of multiple gunshots and a residence struck by gunfire, the sheriff’s office said. While officers were en route, they received a second call that a Black male had arrived at Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound.
At the residence, the homeowner told deputies he heard multiple shots that sounded like they came from an automatic-style weapon, and reported that two projectiles entered his son’s bedroom and another struck the roof, the sheriff’s office said. Investigators recovered multiple shell casings in the driveway of 204 Perry Drive and detained several persons of interest for questioning.
The victim was later identified as 23-year-old Tykedius Moore of Clarksdale. Deputies said an individual at the hospital initially told investigators he and Moore had been traveling north on U.S. Highway 61 near Mullens-Williams Road when another vehicle pulled alongside and opened fire. Moore was transported to the hospital and later died. Detectives later determined Moore was shot during an exchange of gunfire on Perry Drive, the sheriff’s office said. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office are actively investigating. Clarksdale is the county seat of Coahoma County.
