Bridge closes on 2000 block of King Road over safety concerns

Local officials closed a bridge on the 2000 block of King Road effective immediately after raising substantial questions about the structure’s safety and soundness, the board of supervisors said.

The board of supervisors said it is coordinating repair logistics and assessing the bridge to determine the scope of necessary work. Officials did not provide a timeline for repairs.

The closure is intended to protect motorists, pedestrians and first responders while engineers evaluate the bridge. Closures of bridges and roadways are a common measure when inspections or reports raise concerns about structural integrity, officials said.

Residents and commuters should expect traffic disruptions and plan alternate routes. The board of supervisors is the local governing body typically responsible for overseeing county infrastructure, emergency responses and contracting for repairs.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
