Booneville police extend condolences to family, Lee County sheriff’s office

The Booneville Police Department extended condolences to the family and friends of Deputy Rick Haggard and to the Lee County Sheriff’s Department, the agency said in a Facebook post.

The department did not provide further details in the post. The Booneville Police Department is the municipal law enforcement agency responsible for public safety in its community, while a sheriff’s department typically oversees law enforcement operations at the county level, including patrol, investigations and jail duties.

Public expressions of sympathy between law enforcement agencies are common when an officer, deputy or a department experiences a loss or a crisis, reflecting professional camaraderie and community support. Such statements also can help the public understand that local officials and first responders are supporting one another during difficult times.

The Booneville Police Department did not release additional information in the social media post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
