Biloxi Police Department opens applications for sixth Citizen’s Police Academy
BILOXI, Mississippi — The Biloxi Police Department said in a Facebook post Monday that it is accepting applications for the sixth annual Citizen’s Police Academy.
The department encouraged residents to consult a flyer posted with the announcement for additional details. The Facebook post did not list specific dates, enrollment limits or eligibility requirements.
Citizen’s police academies are community outreach programs offered by many law enforcement agencies to give residents an inside look at policing. Such programs typically provide classroom instruction on department operations, demonstrations of equipment and tactics, and opportunities to learn about community policing and public safety — helping participants better understand how local law enforcement functions.
Officials say these programs can strengthen community relations and increase transparency between police and residents. The Biloxi Police Department did not provide further information in the post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
