Biloxi fire department thanks Crunch Fitness for keeping firefighters fit

BILOXI, Mississippi — The Biloxi Fire Department thanked Crunch Fitness in a Facebook post for helping its firefighters stay active, strong and ready to serve, saying physical fitness enables them to protect themselves, support fellow firefighters and respond to the community when needed most.

Firefighting is physically demanding, requiring strength, stamina and agility to perform rescues, carry heavy equipment and work long shifts. Departments across the country emphasize exercise and conditioning as part of preparedness and injury prevention.

Crunch Fitness, a national fitness chain, operates gyms that many communities use for training and exercise. Local partnerships between gyms and public safety agencies can provide access to equipment, classes and space that support ongoing fitness programs for first responders.

The Biloxi Fire Department did not provide further details about the nature of the arrangement in its post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
