14-year-old arrested after allegedly shooting 8-year-old in Warren County

A 14-year-old girl is in custody after allegedly shooting an 8-year-old Monday afternoon in Warren County, according to WJTV. Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace told reporters the shooting occurred just before 4 p.m. on Abraham Drive.

The younger child was transported to a hospital in Jackson for treatment, and officials have not released the child’s condition, Pace said. Deputies recovered a handgun at the scene, he said.

Darkhorse Press has reached out to Sheriff Pace for information on whether the 14-year-old will face charges. Authorities have not released a possible motive, and investigators have not disclosed additional details about how the weapon came to be at the scene.

Shooting incidents involving juveniles typically prompt both criminal and juvenile court considerations and raise questions about access to firearms and public safety in affected communities. The Warren County Sheriff’s Office, which handles law enforcement across the county, is continuing its investigation. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
