Warren County sheriff warns of Apple Pay scam message
Vicksburg — The Warren County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a text message that falsely claims an Apple Pay charge has been placed on hold because of unusual activity.
The sheriff’s office shared an example that says a $143.95 Apple Pay charge at an Apple Store in California was temporarily held and urges recipients to call a phone number for Apple Support. The office said the message is a scam and asked the public to share the warning.
Officials did not provide additional details but advised residents to be cautious of unsolicited messages about account security or payment alerts. Scammers commonly impersonate well-known companies and use urgent language to prompt people to call numbers, click links or give personal information.
Consumers who receive similar messages should avoid calling numbers or following links provided in unsolicited texts, and should verify alerts through official apps or company websites. Law enforcement and consumer protection organizations recommend reporting suspected fraud to local authorities and federal agencies. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
