UMMC welcomes new class of house officers

University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) welcomed a new class of house officers on July 1, the medical center said in a Facebook post.

The post said the new residents and fellows have begun orientation and are moving into hands-on learning as they begin their medical training. It called the arrival an “exciting new chapter” and asked the public to join UMMC in welcoming the physicians in training to campus.

As Mississippi’s only academic medical center, UMMC plays a role in educating physicians, conducting clinical care and supporting research that serves the state, the post said. Residency and fellowship programs provide supervised, in-hospital and outpatient training that prepare physicians to care for patients across specialties and communities.

The July 1 start date coincides with the traditional beginning of residency training in the United States. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
