UMMC launches cancer biology and therapeutics PhD program
The University of Mississippi Medical Center announced a new cancer biology and therapeutics PhD program aimed at addressing Mississippi’s persistently high cancer rates.
UMMC said the program is designed to train the next generation of researchers with a focus on discoveries that can directly improve care for patients across the state and beyond.
Specialized doctoral training can expand research capacity, foster collaborations with clinical teams and potentially increase patient access to cutting-edge treatments and clinical trials, experts say. The program could also help build a local workforce of scientists and clinician-researchers who understand the state’s specific cancer burdens and health-care needs.
UMMC, the University of Mississippi Medical Center, is a major academic health center that trains health professionals and conducts biomedical research. Details about program enrollment, curriculum and start date were not included in the announcement. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
