UMMC AirCare adds fixed-wing aircraft to extend reach
University of Mississippi Medical Center’s AirCare announced it has added a fixed-wing aircraft to its fleet, saying the move will extend its reach to better serve patients who need advanced, specialized care.
UMMC AirCare said in a Facebook post that the expansion supports faster, more efficient transport when distance can be a barrier. The post included a link to a news article on the medical center’s website for additional information.
Air medical services such as UMMC AirCare typically use a mix of helicopters and fixed-wing planes to meet different needs. Fixed-wing aircraft generally allow longer-range transfers and can be better suited for interfacility transports over greater distances, which can be important when patients require specialty hospitals or services not available locally.
The addition could reduce travel time for patients and provide clinicians with more timely options for arranging advanced care, officials said in the announcement. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
