Pontotoc Electric Power Association is warning residents that the heat index is expected to be severe next week and urging them to take precautions in hot weather.
The association recommends wearing lightweight, light-colored and loose-fitting clothing. People working outside should take frequent breaks, while strenuous activity should be avoided during the hottest part of the day if possible.
Children and pets should never be left unattended in a vehicle, the association said.
