Facebook post urges precautions as August heat arrives

A Facebook post warned residents that the August heat has arrived and urged precautions to prevent heat-related illness. The post reminded readers that prolonged heat can lead to heat exhaustion, heat stroke and other illnesses and offered simple steps to stay safe.

The message advised people to stay in air-conditioned areas when possible and to bring pets inside. It urged residents to drink plenty of water and not wait until they feel thirsty, to wear light, loose-fitting clothing and to never leave children, older adults or pets unattended in a vehicle, adding the reminder to “look before you lock.”
