A major donation from the Roots & Wings Foundation is helping the University of Mississippi Medical Center expand midwifery services.
The gift will fund efforts to increase certified nurse-midwife programs and improve maternal health outcomes across Mississippi, UMMC officials said.
The support comes as Mississippi faces ongoing challenges in maternal health, especially for underserved communities. Details about the initiative are available at UMMC’s website.
Jon Ross Myers founded Mississippi News Group in 2013. Before founding the organization, he worked at The Daily Mississippian, The Marion Salute and The Southern Sentinel. A Mississippi journalist and writer based in Ripley, he received second place in poetry in the 2025 William Faulkner Literary Competition for "The Garden."
