Mississippi Emergency Agency Offers Space Heater Safety Tips Amid Cold Snap

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency issued safety tips Thursday as temperatures drop across the state.

Officials recommend keeping space heaters at least three feet away from flammable materials, plugging them directly into wall outlets, and never leaving them unattended. They advise placing heaters on flat, hard surfaces to prevent tipping and using models with automatic shut-off features in case of overheat or tip-over.

Residents are urged to follow these precautions to stay safe during the cold weather.
