Mississippi health officials encourage children to stay active through play

The Mississippi State Department of Health is encouraging children to get moving in ways they enjoy during National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, saying healthy habits can begin with play.

The department suggested activities including riding a bike, playing outside, dancing to a favorite song, walking the dog and shooting hoops. It also encouraged families to get moving together.

Making physical activity fun can help children build healthy habits they can carry with them as they grow, the department said.
