Mississippi Education Department to make classroom funds available July 15
The Mississippi Department of Education said it will make classroom supply funds available to teachers on July 15, 2026, responding to a report that found most teachers began school year without access to those funds.
Last year, the office that released the findings said 75% of Mississippi teachers started the school year before they had access to classroom supply funds, forcing some to pay out of pocket or begin the year with empty classrooms, the office said.
In a written response to the office, the department said, “the Department will make EEF funds available to teachers on July 15, 2026.” The department added that “a July 15 activation allows MDE to load and activate accounts promptly so that money is available well before the great majority of teachers return to their classrooms.”
The office that issued the original report thanked the department for taking feedback from its review and from teachers across the state and for addressing the concern, according to the statement.
Making funds available before teachers return aims to reduce out-of-pocket spending and ensure classrooms are ready for students. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
