Meridian open house highlights free adult education programs

A community open house Thursday at the Ralph E. Young, Jr. Center for Adult Education in Meridian highlighted Adult Education and Family Literacy Week and gave students, their families and community members an opportunity to learn about programs offered through the center’s adult education initiative.

“We realize that many people are not aware of how much we have to offer,” said Sarah Reece, the program’s High School Equivalency (HSE) Testing Coordinator.

MCC Adult Education is a free service designed to help adults develop basic skills. The program supports educational-skill improvement, completion of a high school equivalency, workforce readiness and transitional skills for post-secondary education.

The program also offers refresher courses in basic reading, math and writing for people who have a high school diploma but may have deficiencies in one or more of those areas.
