Blue Mountain Christian University is inviting students to showcase their formal essay writing skills in any field of study, including science, history, literature, education and business.
The university encouraged students to sharpen their thesis statements, tighten their arguments and submit their strongest writing. It described formal essays as a way for students to build arguments, think critically and communicate ideas, while developing research and clear-writing skills.
Jon Ross Myers founded Mississippi News Group in 2013. Before founding the organization, he worked at The Daily Mississippian, The Marion Salute and The Southern Sentinel. A Mississippi journalist and writer based in Ripley, he received second place in poetry in the 2025 William Faulkner Literary Competition for "The Garden."
