Tupelo man charged with possession of illegal gun modification
Tupelo police arrested a man on Jan. 2 after finding a firearm with an illegal machine gun conversion device during a traffic stop.
Officers pulled over a vehicle on North Gloster Street on Jan. 1 around 9:12 a.m. for an equipment violation. During the stop, they detected the smell of marijuana and observed drug evidence in the vehicle.
A subsequent search uncovered marijuana and the firearm with the illegal device. The driver was taken to the Lee County Jail.
On Jan. 2, police charged 23-year-old Deshon N. Bell of Tupelo with a felony count of possessing a machine gun conversion device. Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Weir set Bell’s bond at $10,000. The case will be referred to the Lee County Grand Jury, authorities said.
