The Lee County ordinance governing the sale, possession and use of Kratom will take effect and be enforced beginning September 12, 2026, Sheriff Jim H. Johnson said.
The Lee County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on February 18, 2026, to ban Kratom in the county. After the ordinance was passed, an appeal was filed and enforcement was suspended while the legal challenge proceeded in court. The sheriff’s office said that legal process has expired.
The county is providing businesses with 48 hours’ notice that sales of Kratom violating the ordinance will be subject to enforcement beginning September 12, 2026. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said it will continue working with appropriate authorities and community members to ensure compliance.
