Former Guntown officials arrested in alleged $9,950 sewage billing scheme

Former Guntown Alderman William Daniel Davis and former Public Works Operator Robert Lee Davis were arrested on allegations of fraud or embezzlement in public office, Mississippi State Auditor Shad White announced.

Between October and November 2024, the pair allegedly conspired to defraud the City of Guntown by billing it for installation of a residential sewage line at a private residence belonging to Daniel Davis. The alleged scheme caused the city a $9,950 loss.

Each man faces up to 10 years in prison and a $5,000 fine if convicted. The auditor’s office said people arrested by the agency are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

“Our team at the State Auditor’s office has zero tolerance for those who think it is acceptable to steal taxpayer dollars,” White said.
