Gulfport police to participate in national railroad safety enforcement event

The Gulfport Police Department will join Operation Lifesaver Inc., the Amtrak Police Department and hundreds of law enforcement agencies nationwide for Operation Clear Track, an effort to raise awareness of and enforce railroad grade crossing and trespassing laws.

Operation Clear Track is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 22, during See Tracks? Think Train® Week, which runs Sept. 21-27.

During the event, participating law enforcement personnel will share rail safety information with their communities at targeted railroad grade crossings, transit stations and other locations.

The stated goal of See Tracks? Think Train® Week and Operation Clear Track is to reduce pedestrian and driver injuries and fatalities around railroad tracks through increased public awareness.
