xAI invests $20 billion in Mississippi, state calls move historic

xAI is investing $20 billion in Mississippi, a sum state officials called historic and said is 50 times larger than major projects the state celebrated just a few years ago.

State officials said the investment secures Mississippi’s role in the global technology sector and represents an unusual scale for economic development in the state. Officials did not provide additional details about timing, locations or projected employment in the announcement summarized by state communications.

xAI is an artificial intelligence company founded by entrepreneur Elon Musk that is positioning itself as a major player in AI research and development. Large corporate investments in technology can bring new jobs, supplier contracts and research partnerships to host communities, and can affect regional plans for workforce training and infrastructure.

The full scope and timetable for the xAI investment have not been released. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
