Burn bans are in effect in 13 Mississippi counties as dry conditions increase wildfire risk during peak wildfire season, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, which directed residents to the Mississippi Forestry Commission for current information.
The affected counties are Lee, Tate, Benton, Sunflower, Marshall, Lafayette, Copiah, Rankin, Jefferson, Covington, Grenada, Franklin and Jefferson Davis.
The bans prohibit all outdoor burning, including campfires, debris burning and other open flames. The list is being updated as conditions change, and additional counties may be added. Residents should check mfc.ms.gov/burn-bans for the latest information before considering a fire.
